Right now, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is finalizing its plans for how much water to extract from Payahuunadü over the next twelve months.
LADWP proposed pumping ~54,000–81,000 acre-feet of water over the next year. However, Inyo County has recommended a reduction to ~46,000 acre-feet. We are asking LADWP to accept Inyo County's reduced recommendations.
Inyo County's reduced pumping recommendation reflects months of public advocacy and productive dialogue between the County Water Department, Water Commission, and community members. This reduction would provide meaningful relief to the parts of the valley most harmed by LADWP's over-pumping.
LADWP has historically ignored Inyo County's recommendations, so let’s press LADWP to accept Inyo County’s recommendations and help protect our ecosystems!
