Spring moods at the lake. | Juno Lamb |
Nature is abundant this time of year. Roses are opening, spilling their sweet scent into the air, plants that have flowered are already making fruit, and birds are busy at their nests.
We are abundant, too, as we finish spring projects (a Landowner Handbook, new kiosk signs!), complete the final phase of our Shoreline Restoration project, and prepare for summer with its many opportunities to gather together for learning and visiting and volunteering. Check out our event calendar below! We look forward to seeing you.

We are delighted to have created a Landowner Handbook as a resource for our conservation partners who own Lake Basin property protected by a CLC covenant or easement. It also contains information useful for people considering the benefits of protecting your property with a conservation easement. You can find it here: |

Nature Apps for the Naturalist |
A big thank you to David Govatski for his wonderful program on apps that help us learn more about the natural world we are part of. Thanks to Dave, a recording of the program will be available until July 1 for your viewing pleasure. He's also shared a list of his favorite nature apps with handy links so you can explore which might suit you! |

For safety reasons we skipped the trails up on the mountain, and so we are hosting a second Trail Clearing Day & Dinner on Saturday, June 28. We'll meet at 9 AM in the Grove at Chocorua Lake. Register HERE for updates.

We've finished the final phase of planting for the Shoreline Restoration project at Chocorua Lake, and the barriers have been removed at the Island and Tamworth Residents Area. When you visit these areas you will notice the fencing pictured above. This will remain up through this summer season to give the hundreds of new plants, shrubs, and trees time to get established so they can thrive in their new home. Thank you for your patience. The outcome of all this work will be a more resilient shoreline, more protections for water quality, and improved habitat for wildlife and pollinating insects. |

We met many members of the heath family, from velvet-leaved blueberry to rhodora, from bog rosemary to bog laurel, plants that thrive in acidic, damp, low-nutrient soils. We also met some carnivores including the beautiful sundew with its sticky insect-capturing leaves and purple pitcher plants, whose deep leaves are slippery at the top so that insects slide in, and then inside contain rough hairs that make it hard for the insect to climb out again.

Please do not pick sundew, or other wetland plants. We pulled up a tiny piece, roots and all, to pass around for educational purposes, and then replanted it. Thank you. |
