We hope you are enjoying the pleasures of routine after all the fun and busy moments of summer.
We are turning our attention toward fall stewardship, and invite you to spend some time outdoors with us this fall to move your body as well as:
It's moving season!
It was another beautiful Parade of Lights thanks to the dozens of people who took the time to decorate and light up 35 boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards, parade leader Pen Hallowell, everyone who came to cheer and watch from the shore, and—the weather! Thank you all for keeping this beautiful community tradition alive and thriving. More images below! This is an excellent season to get outdoors and notice what's changing in the landscape—cooler temps, very few biting critters. Scroll down to see some of what we've noticed in the area in recent weeks. Lilacs in September?! |

Even in a drought, Mushroom Walk participants found at least six choice edible mushrooms and a couple of medicinal mushrooms, though not necessarily in choice condition or quantity. | Juno Lamb |
Our world, brought to you by fungi |
Many thanks to Eric Milligan of NH Mushroom Co. for another informative and entertaining Mushroom Walk. You can find the Fungi Learning Resources list sent to participants below. It includes local opportunities to learn more about fungi, books, program replays, a podcast with Merlin Sheldrake, author of the bestseller Entangled Life, that is an excellent overview of the many ways fungi shape our planet and lives. Even a song!

The lilac has become a quintessential New England flower, though in fact they are native to southeastern Europe and Asia, and were brought here in the 18th century. Folks have been observing lilac shrubs in distress this year, probably from a lilac leaf blight that hit local lilacs particularly hard due to a wet early part of the season followed by heat and drought. Some of these plants are stress-induced flowering now, like these above. | Juno Lamb
