Summer is (officially) here!
The daylilies are in bloom, new life is popping up around the Basin, and the waters of Chocorua Lake are inviting more and more people to swim, fish, and kayak.
Find your way to the lake this month for a guided paddle or for a drink with the Next Gen crew. Visit with us at Farmers' Markets around the region and pick up a new CLC hat, a beautiful Nurture Nature print, or a t-shirt (or get a jump on things and buy online). Scroll down for information about upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities, see kids-in-action creating art from nature, and see a peep of a new member of the Chocorua community.
Independence Day celebrations are fast approaching—please keep in mind that fireworks, fires, and grills are not allowed at Chocorua Lake or any CLC properties. Fireworks especially increase risk of forest fire, disturb wildlife, and can negatively impact lake water quality. We wish you a fun and safe holiday weekend! |
Join us for our Annual Meeting & Cookout on Saturday, August 1, at 4 PM |
Please come to our Annual Meeting & Cookout at Runnells Hall for a chance to connect with CLC staff and board members, learn about our current work and progress on CLC's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, ask questions, and visit with friends and neighbors over a tasty meal. Bring your favorite salad or dessert!

Join us for a hike next Saturday, July 11 at 9 AM at CLC's Clark Reserve to learn how we can read the landscape to understand the history and changes that came before our time—whether it's 200 years or 12,000. Rick Allmendinger is a Professor Emeritus of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University and has spent much time exploring the geological features of the Chocorua Lake Basin.

CLC's 2026 AmeriCorps members, Harper and Olivia, were on the scene after the intense storms of past weeks damaged plants and eroded Chocorua Lake's eastern shoreline. The CLC crew cleaned out culverts and spread woodchips to mitigate the damage and protect the shoreline against future storms. | Debra Marnich |

...to Blaine Nelson, Deb McCormack, and Jan Hallez for visiting Chocorua Lake in June with their metal detecting equipment. Blaine and Deb are members of the Granite State Treasure Hunters Club, and work in collaboration with the Loon Preservation Committee to visit lakes in New Hampshire and use metal detectors to find and remove lead tackle.
Lead is the #1 cause of death for loons, and lead tackle left in lakes is a major source. Lead sinkers and jigs are illegal, but old tackle still sits on the bottom of many NH lakes and needs to be removed. Thank you to these ladies for doing this crucial work! |
Blaine, Deb, and Jan taught CLC staff and AmeriCorps how to use the metal detectors, the pin-pointing "carrot", and how to find lead in the water. | Blaine Nelson

We were delighted to welcome Tamworth Rec kids to CLC's Scott Reserve and the Mary Mullarkey All Persons Trail to explore the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. Younger kids created mandalas from found materials while older kids learned the nitty-gritty about soil in a forest ecosystem. |
