Hello [[INITIATIVE.AUDIENCE MEMBER.FIRST NAME]],
August being National Make-A-Will Month, got me thinking about what it means to care for the future.
When someone is diagnosed with liver cancer, so much attention understandably turns to what needs to happen right now. There are appointments to schedule, treatment decisions to make, questions to ask, and an unfamiliar medical landscape to navigate. But a serious diagnosis can also make us think about the people we love, the lives we are building, and what we hope to leave behind.
Planning for the future can be an act of love.
That is why I think of an up-to-date will as a love letter to the people and causes that have shaped our lives. It can give the people we love clarity about our wishes and provide peace of mind during an already difficult time.
Through Blue Faery's partnership with FreeWill, you can create or update your will online at no cost. You can also name beneficiaries for assets such as retirement accounts and life insurance policies.
August is also an opportunity to look toward the future by listening to those who have already traveled the path of liver cancer. On August 22, our next The Truth About Liver Cancer workshop will focus on Survivor Stories. Medical information can help us understand the disease, but survivors can tell us what it actually feels like to move through diagnosis, treatment, uncertainty, recovery, and life afterward.
Their experiences can offer perspective, connection, and hope to others facing liver cancer.
Our work to bring patients, caregivers, and experts together will continue this fall with our HCC Lunch & Learn in Chicago in October, presented by Blue Faery in partnership with University of Chicago Medicine. These programs create opportunities for people affected by hepatocellular carcinoma to learn, ask questions, and connect directly with medical professionals and others in the liver cancer community.
At Blue Faery, we cannot know exactly what the future will bring. What we can do is prepare for it, share what we know, learn from one another, and help make the path clearer for those who come after us.
The choices we make today can become a gift to someone tomorrow.
